Hollywood, CA – In a move to further cement what they hope will be a powerhouse tentpole franchise, Warner Bros. announced today that the upcoming Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice will feature a slate of fresh heroes, many new to the silver screen.
“We at Warner think it’s time that great characters like Wonder Woman and Aquaman finally made the leap from newsstands to theaters,” said Jeffrey Rosenberg, head of Warner’s creative development team. “As well as fan favorites like Max Mercury, Elongated Man, the Atom, Dr. Strange, Jubilee, Lou Ferrigno’s version of the Incredible Hulk, Jabberjaw and Danger Mouse.”
Warner’s bold move to incorporate more heroes into its team-up comes on the heels of Marvel’s very successful cross-promotional strategy under its “Marvel Universe” brand, but Rosenberg stated that had nothing to do with Warner’s decision.
“Warner Bros. blazes trails, we don’t follow. I don’t think Marvel’s even making movies these days…what’s that?…shit,” Rosenberg said. “Well, uh, this one’s gonna have Indiana Jones and Bella from Twilight and…Crash Bandicoot. Now if you’ll excuse me, I have to make some calls.”
With this new super-team-up strategy, many fans are hopeful to see their favorites come to life. Jason Fieldler, 26, is among the 20,000 18-49 year-old males the filmmakers have tapped for market research.
“It would just be sweet to see like, Superman punchin’ Jaws in the face, you know, or like the Stay Puft Marshmallow Man havin’ it out with a pterodactyl,” Fieldler said. “‘Course, as long as they get RoboCop in there, I’ll be happy.”
Martin Loeb, 43, agrees. “That sounds good. Though I always liked Hawkman, myself.”
Reached for comment, director Zack Snyder expressed his enthusiasm for the strategy, saying he was most excited about the wealth of villains who would be battling these mighty heroes.
“We’ve got Lex Luthor, Maxie Zeus, Gorilla Grodd, Captain Boomerang, Skeletor and Flintheart Glomgold all lined up for the first act,” he said. “And I don’t want to give too much away, but fans of Polyphemous, Spring-heeled Jack and the Loch Ness Monster won’t be disappointed.”
Snyder added, “It’s going to be a 19-hour movie.”
