You might not realize it, but the display advertising you find in Target stores can range anywhere from being hilarious to downright terrifying. Here, we will chronicle this demented segment of the retail world.
I found this giant banner above the frozen foods section at a local Target. What in God’s name is going on here? What kind of sick torture is this man putting his son through? The only thing I can think of is that this is part of a variety of trials to turn the son into a man, that not breaking the egg is just one more accomplished feat on the path to supposed manhood. But my dad never did this with me. Am I not a man?
No, I can’t think like that. I’m not in the wrong here. Target, for whatever reason, is trying to play manipulative mind games with me while I look for frozen broccoli. That father’s stare, though…the son who looks like he’s crying uncontrollably on the inside. He just wants to be like everyone else. Being put through countless tests of manhood is wreaking havoc on his young mind.
“Maybe you’ll get breakfast if you don’t break the egg this time,” the father says.
We are looking at a young boy being deprived of a childhood. This isn’t right…but what can we do?
