It doesn’t come as a surprise that the sentient barrel of radioactive sludge named Donald Trump won South Carolina’s GOP primary Saturday, as he’s been leading in every…single…poll…everywhere…for months.
But here’s something that actually is somewhat surprising – sort of. Exit polls, those things political pundits furiously masturbate to on election night, in the state have nearly 75% of people agreeing with Trump that there should be at least a temporary ban on Muslims entering the United States. Additionally, nearly 50% of Republican voters in South Carolina favor the deportation of undocumented immigrants.
Those are astounding figures. But don’t misunderstand what these exits polls are saying. These aren’t people concerned for the overall safety and prosperity of the nation or with any logical solutions on how to tackle the threat of Islamic extremism or immigration. Nope, South Carolina is just a hotbed for tried and true, flat-out racist, “born-again” bumpkins (you might recall the battle over the Confederate flag in South Carolina last year, stemming from an act of racially motivated domestic terrorism at a Charleston church). Of course, these people would just call themselves “consciously conservative.”
Trump supporters are your relatives who have cringe-worthy diatribes at Thanksgiving and your former high school classmates whose Facebook updates are littered with misspellings and memes that make some sort of racist and/or Muslim claim about Barack Obama. It’s all just amplified in this leaking rectum of a state.
Donald Trump doesn’t “tell it like it is.” He’s simply telling dangerous imbeciles what they want to hear, and the fear-mongering is somehow working. It’s not often that the uneducated racists of the country get to be represented like this, but these are the baffling, anus-clenching times in which we currently live. No one has any logical explanation for it other than to admit that there are far more xenophobes and racists out there than we ever previously cared to admit.
But profound stupidity will always exist, and right now, it’s thriving in South Carolina. The problem is that it appears to be thriving nearly everywhere these days. So while South Carolina is the current racist utopia, it seems like more are on the horizon.
South Carolina sucks.
