I can’t say enough good things about Cardi B’s new album Invasion of Privacy. It’s such a fresh sound throughout, and every song truly, ahem, bops. As Cardi B herself would say, she is running this shit like cardio.
One of my favorite songs on the album is “Bartier Cardi,” mostly for a curious line by 21 Savage, who features on the track. In the midst of his verse that waxes poetic about high-end cars, fashion and his own sperm, 21 Savage throws in this sneak peek at his personal life:
“I like hot sauce on my chicken (on God) /
I pulled the rubber off and I put hot sauce on her titties”
There’s a lot to unpack there. I can appreciate that 21 Savage likes putting hot sauce on his chicken so much that he wants to tell everyone. He’s not wrong – hot sauce on chicken tastes really good! I can definitely get on board with that.
But this is where he kind of starts to lose me. “I pulled the rubber off and I put hot sauce on her titties.” Pulling the rubber off? Sure, sure. Plenty of guys do that. But now he’s pouring his jar of hot sauce all over a woman’s breasts too? The way he puts it, 21 Savage sure seems to be suggesting that he’s eating hot sauce-drenched chicken while having sex with a woman and then, for reasons that remain unclear, he is also putting the hot sauce all over that woman’s breasts.
By pulling the rubber off and simultaneously spilling hot sauce all over her, it’s likely some bizarre sexual fetish 21 Savage has cultivated. But why anyone would agree to it is beyond me. You’re really asking a lot of the woman here and if this is happening on her couch or in her bed, that’s a guaranteed sheet- or couch-ruiner. Not to mention the mind-boggling logistics of eating chicken while having sex and where that all fits into this.
I don’t know, it just feels like a whole hell of a lot of work. To each their own, I guess.
