LOS ANGELES – Residents of Los Angeles were shocked to learn that the police were called to beloved actor Tom Hanks’ home Thursday night for a special black-tie dinner and fundraiser to benefit the department.
“In all my years on the force, I’ve never seen anything like this,” said sergeant Tom Wilkies. “I had no idea a man like him could be capable of something so obscenely generous.”
The LAPD had been called to Hanks’ home numerous times in the past for various barbecues and special screenings of his movies. But Hanks, who is an ardent supporter of local law enforcement, went the extra mile Thursday, calling in numerous favors and putting up a considerable amount of his own money to host the star-studded event.
“When I stepped through the doorway, my stomach dropped,” said officer Tammy Schultz. “Everywhere I looked there was somebody famous, some sort of amazing display of food and drinks.”
Neighbors stood outside, gawking at the line of lit-up police cars surrounding the home, wondering what had happened inside.
“I’ve lived next to Tom for twenty years,” said Hollywood lawyer Martin Rubinsky. “It’s chilling to think he’s been right next to my family and I this long and we had no idea he was capable of something this selfless.”
At the end of the night, Hanks was led out of the home by officers, cheering him on and patting him on the back, before letting Hanks take one of the cruisers around the block on a joyride.
