After a surprising performance in the New Hampshire primary that saw her take third place and snag six delegates, the media was all about Minnesota senator Amy Klobuchar’s momentum heading into the Nevada caucuses.
That momentum must have been faster than the speed of light, because I sure didn’t see it in the destruction she endured, ending up in sixth place in the weekend’s caucuses (behind Tom Steyer) and, I’d say, effectively ending her run for president.
As Bernie Sanders continues to solidify his national lead and build a winning coalition of essentially all demographics, Klobuchar should simply place her campaign in the dumpster where it belongs. She has been trying to position herself as the moderate darling the media so badly wants to prop up, but it turns out no one much cares for anything she’s throwing out there.
It’s not even due to the fact that by all accounts she appears to be an abusive boss or says some pretty cringe-worthy stuff, but more so a changing of the political tides. Nobody is all that interested in centrist candidates puking out the usual platitudes, side-stepping anything of substance while trying to convince us that they, and only they, are somehow the person to beat Donald Trump in November.
The media so badly wanted us to think Klobuchar was at the beginning of some magical run that would see her catching up to and eventually passing Sanders in the polls and delegate counts. But here we are, exactly where we pretty much all assumed, her campaign hanging by a thread, just sort of meandering along until it’s eventually put out of its misery, likely after Super Tuesday.
See you in South Carolina!
