Look, I like Elizabeth Warren. I like her a lot. Her policies might be a little left-leaning for me, but she is witty, brave, and kind. Her fearless attitude is an inspiration. In fact, it’s a little too inspirational. Because ever since she announced her candidacy, my five-year-old daughter won’t stop believing she has the opportunity to be whatever she wants to be when she grows up – even president.
And frankly, it’s getting kind of annoying.
Yes, obviously my daughter means the world to mean. She is smart, funny, kind, caring, courageous – just like her mother. The most thoughtful little girl you could imagine. And as her father, it’s my job to protect her from the evils of this world, like the insane belief that she will ever be equal to an old, crusty white man. ESPECIALLY an old, crusty white man who appears to be losing his mind right in front of us. Teaching that to little girls is just plain irresponsible. And that’s the kind of stuff Elizabeth Warren was poisoning my daughter’s mind with.
So yeah, I’m glad she’s out of the race. Because I don’t think my daughter is the only one. I think there are millions and millions of little girls out there who saw an awe-inspiring, brilliant female role model, while in reality this “role model” was filling their cute little pig-tailed heads with ridiculous fantasies of being in charge, enacting real change that would positively affect millions of Americans.
This is dangerous stuff.
Do I find Elizabeth Warren’s pull-yourself-up-by-your-bootstraps story pretty amazing? Yes. I mean, I could never do that. The fact that a single mother worked her way through law school, got elected to the U.S. Senate only to become the fiercest opponent of Wall Street greed America has ever seen… sure. It’s pretty dang impressive.
But come on. A woman can’t be president. They are inherently flawed at leadership for a whole slew of reasons I cannot articulate or even put my finger on but I know I’ve heard that somewhere and in the depths of my soul, I know it to be true. And I don’t want my daughter, who I love and cherish dearly, to go around thinking she doesn’t have this exact same set of made-up, inherent defects.
Can you imagine if Elizabeth Warren were to get elected? A female president would be a disaster for reasons I just will not and cannot get into because they won’t come out as coherent thoughts. The amount of little girls across the country who think they, too, deserved to be heard – well, it would infect our society for generations.
Don’t get me wrong. I want the world for my daughter. I want her to have everything she could ever want. Achieve everything she can dream of. But I also want her to know she absolutely cannot, will not, should not, EVER sit in the Oval Office.
Love you, baby girl!
