You guys! So today we’re going to talk about how to be a social media influencer. We all secretly want to date one or be one – there is no in between. But here’s a little secret: Becoming famous on Instagram or YouTube is actually not that hard. All you have to do is follow our easy guide to social media stardom.
Share your favorite avocado toast recipe
What did you eat today? Your followers are dying to know! But if that doesn’t include your favorite recipe for avocado toast, the one with roasted tomatoes instead of raw tomatoes, don’t even bother making a twenty-minute vlog out of it.
This is especially true if you’re a budding health and fitness guru or a plant-based foodie. There are tons of “What I Ate Today” videos on YouTube specifically, and your subscribers will devour – pardon the pun – every single one of them. They might not even notice that you’ve slipped five ads into a ten-minute video. Oh, and make sure to change your handle to something like Buns (or Bums) of Steel or Turmeric Goddess for better branding.
Pose with a household object
How many of you have seen this photo: a shirtless dude posing in front of a lamp with the caption “What’s on your mind?” in the last few months? Is flexing while you mow the lawn, or any other mundane task, necessary? Only if you’re trying to become Instagram-famous.
It’s also best paired with a caption that piques your followers’ interest. A question, perhaps? This way, you can boost engagement in the comments section, and they’ll see you as someone relatable, someone they can chat with over a soy latte. “What’s on your mind?” is a classic, of course. But another good icebreaker is, “What are the three digits on the back of your credit card?” If your followers respond, then you’ve succeeded as an influencer.
Learn Internet lingo
Did you know that Baby Boomers are not that far behind millennials in terms of screen time? If you really want to boost your follower count, it’s only right that you also learn how the elderly talk. A great way to learn it is to read through Cheeky Bingo’s handy list of internet shorthand. IMHO – that’s short for “in my honest opinion,” JTLYK – this list is a goldmine, when you consider how much time older people spend playing bingo.
No need to spell out “Love you with all my heart” on your nightly message to your followers. You can simply type LUWAMH! Doesn’t that just make life a thousand times easier? And for your next beach selfie, you can just put WYSIWYG for your next caption – it won’t be too vague for your followers.
Post a generic travel shot
Authenticity is key, as all social media influencers say. That’s code for the more generic your aesthetic, the better. This is what Insta Repeat has gathered, at least for travel and adventure pages. It doesn’t matter if a hundred other backpackers have taken portraits inside the Antelope Canyon. You have to do it yourself, too, for the sake of a well-curated feed. The fact of the matter is, the only way your page will get noticed is if it blends in with the others.
