I am so jacked up for the Crew Dragon manned launch I could run through a brick wall. For the first time since 2011, we’ll be launching astronauts into space from American soil, and it marks the first time that we’ll ever be doing so from a commercial spacecraft.
That’s exciting as hell!
But we wouldn’t be at this moment without the history of the space program behind it, including all of its successes and failures. Or “successful failures” like the Apollo 13 mission, which, of course, resulted in one of the best movies of the ’90s.
Smack dab in the middle of Tom Hanks’ absurdly good run of the decade, Apollo 13 remains one of Ron Howard’s best films and, still, one of the best movies ever made about the space program. When you’ve got Hanks, Bill Paxton, Kevin Bacon, Ed Harris, etc., how could you go wrong?
Listen to our Revenge of the ’90s episode on Apollo 13 to revisit one of the most intense periods of NASA history as we now embark on the first mission to what could eventually be a journey to Mars (where Elon Musk is going to raise a Martian family or something).
