WASHINGTON – Appearing in the White House Rose Garden for a prepared statement on the anniversary of the 9/11 terrorist attacks, President Trump described his personal experiences on the day, including catching and saving the infamous “Falling Man.”
“I was there, standing there – when the planes hit – I was downtown a lot then, you know?” the president said. “And this guy, he’s, I see him. He’s up there. WAY up there, but I have good eyes, the best they tell me. Doctors have said that. Can you believe that? ‘Sir, nobody has better vision than you.’ And this guy, he’s falling – I don’t know if he fell or tripped – maybe pushed, who knows? We’re going to be looking into that very strongly, believe me. And I see him falling and I say, ‘No good. Somebody’s gotta help him.’ So I take off my coat – and it was an expensive coat, so you can imagine – and put it in my arms, wanted a cushion, ’cause this guy was just flying through the air. And just as he’s getting close I scoop him up – I say ‘scoop,’ but he was a lot heavier than an ice cream cone, am I right? And I say, ‘Whoa, big fella!’ and there he is calling me a hero and telling me I’m the best and that I should run for president because I’d do more in my first term than anyone else – he was right about that one, huh – and he gives me a couple bucks and then calls a cab. Nice guy. ‘Frank’ I think was the name. And later, that picture, I saw that picture and I said, that’s the guy. The Falling Man. So that’s what they all called him. But I saved him. And my coat was okay.”
After a further forty-five minutes of discussing the “Falling Man,” President Trump concluded his remarks, stating, “It’s a good thing we didn’t have COVID back then, right? Probably wouldn’t have touched the guy. Maybe, but who knows?”
