I’m happy to report that, after my latest rewatch, I can say with full confidence that Bill & Ted’s Bogus Journey remains a most non-heinous early ’90s comedy. In fact, I’d say it’s better than Bill & Ted’s Excellent Adventure in almost every way.
Not that the original is bad; this entire series is great all the way through. It’s just that Bogus Journey took a lot of narrative risks when it would have been easy to simply revisit and rehash the first movie’s plot. The sequel’s story is a fun ride, the jokes are better, and the parts are written in such a way to cater to each actor’s strengths. Plus, Death rules!
Before seeing Bill & Ted Face the Music, give Bill & Ted’s Bogus Journey a rewatch, then make sure to listen to our Revenge of the ’90s episode on it! And hey, why not subscribe to the podcast too while you’re at it?
