NEW YORK CITY – Neil deGrasse Tyson reached a landmark in his career today when he successfully corrected every scientifically inaccurate post on the popular social media site Twitter.
Tyson had been working towards this goal for quite some time and is relieved to have finally achieved success. When asked what pushed him to take on the endeavor, the astrophysicist said, “You know, I just think the internet has always been a place of total truth and accuracy, especially when it comes to something like science. I just had to touch a few things up here and there to make sure everyone on Twitter was on the same page.”
All tweets from Tyson were taken with humility and grace, with most thanking the planetary scientist for pointing out their flaws and educating them on the subject.
Mike Parr, a former global warming denier who was corrected by Tyson, said, “Overall it was pretty neat of Tyson to correct me on Twitter. Now I can work towards learning more about the subject and bettering myself as a human being.” Parr has since become an avid environmental activist.
The final tweet that Tyson corrected was from Sheila Starr, an anti-vaxxer claiming the flu vaccine can give children autism. After Tyson corrected her and said there was no scientific research or evidence supporting her claim, Starr responded with, “Oh, I seem to have misunderstood. Thank you so much for clearing this up for me, Neil.”
When asked what he plans to do next, Tyson replied, “I’m not sure. I was thinking of maybe correcting the scientific inconsistencies within 4chan or Facebook but the moderators of those sites seem to be doing a pretty great job already. I’m not sure I could find anything to correct.”
