Netflix’s newest reality dating show Love is a Battlefield is almost here!
In this series, inspired by Love is Blind, 30 singles will meet and potentially fall in love. However, there’s one little catch: over the course of several days, contenders will participate in a medieval battle against experienced LARPers (live-action role players), using their weapon of choice, while full suits of armor prohibit them from looking at each other. And unlike traditional LARP combat which uses padded, mock weapons, these weapons are 100% real.
In the show’s new trailer, Monique Defoe admits that it is “scary” to join the series, on account of her lack of experience with the bow and arrow, having not picked one up since 6th grade P.E. class, but she is “looking for a husband.”
Says Jason Henderson, “It’s been one of the hardest things, dating as an adult. Am I really going to meet my wife in a grocery store? How is that even possible when I use Instacart? I figured, if I can’t meet my wife while we literally face our imminent deaths together, there’s no hope left for me.”
Caitlin Meyers is ready to find her perfect match because “I’ve done a lot of this life alone. I just don’t want to do it alone anymore. In fact, I don’t want to do anything anymore. That’s why I like the crossbow. All I have to do is stand back, point, and shoot while all the tough guys do the grunt work.”
Tammy Nelson also revealed that she is looking for a partner who truly understands her.
“I’m very confident in who I am and I deserve someone who understands that even though I like to get up close and personal with my dagger to smell the fear exuding from my victim’s soul, at the end of the day I’m just a gal who wants to be loved,” she explains.
The singles begin to connect on the battlefield as they reveal more about themselves and their backgrounds through their weapons of choice and fighting styles.
By the end of the battle, the trailer teases multiple men getting down on one knee to propose. However, their relationships are put to the test when they move in together and “find out if their physical connection matches their strong emotional bond developed on the battlefield,” according to a release from Netflix.
One contestant shares, “I haven’t connected the sexy, strong, brute on the battlefield, swinging his spiked flail like an ogre on bath salts, with this person I’m looking at now.”
Jason later suggests that he and Travis Gill “swap fiancées”, after his fiancé was permanently disfigured by an arrow to the face.
Another brokenhearted contestant admits, “The person that I love tripped and fell on his own sword. He’s dead.”
The trailer concludes with host Vanessa Lachey alongside her husband Nick asking the show’s ultimate question (as the Pat Benatar song of the same name plays), “Is love truly a battlefield?”
Love Is a Battlefield season 1 premieres March 24th on Netflix.
