PARIS, FRANCE – 50 volleyballs have been popped by the top of the Eiffel Tower so far in the Paris 2024 Olympic Games, in an oversight Olympic official Gabriel Dubois claimed has cost the games hundreds of euros. Dubois claimed that when deciding to place the beach volleyball stadium next to the Eiffel Tower, planners “knew the top of the tower was pointy,” but “just didn’t think anyone could get a volleyball up there.” “Boy, were we wrong,” he admitted, “and it has cost us.” Dubois said Olympic staff have made 21 trips to Parisian sporting goods stores in the four days since the games began, purchasing up to three volleyballs per trip. “We’ve depleted the volleyball inventories of eight stores so far and, if nothing changes, are projected to wipe the metro area clean of them by the end of the games.” Dubois reported that the Olympic committee is looking at implementing some volleyball protection measures, one being balancing a mattress on the tip of the Eiffel Tower, and will consult with city officials and physicists when deciding what course of action to take to fix this problem.
